Did you know that shy people have a harder time starting relationships, making friends, getting jobs and starting a business? Use these 3 easy steps to overcome shyness and unleash your inner social champion to achieve your goals.
It might surprise you to find out that despite the fact that I’ve been a very public person for most of my life, I had to push past my shyness to do it.
Because being shy doesn’t work out too well for your ambitious.
Often times, shyness is perceived as a form of social rejection by our more extroverted counterparts, and us shy people wind up without as many job offers, partnerships and missing out on a lot fun.
If you want to develop any kind of business, you absolutely need to connect with people. It takes time and if you are shy (like me) a little practice.
Psychologist Joanne Wood via BBC reports:
“Repeating positive self-statements may benefit certain people, such as individuals with high self-esteem, but backfire for the very people who need them the most.”
So what’s a shy person to do?
Luckily, research shows that being shy is not all bad. In fact, most shy people develop better relationships and are are well-liked, it just takes longer to get there.
If you want to super-charge your efforts and grow your business, use these three research-backed techniques to overcome shyness and network with confidence.
Three Ways To Overcome Shyness:
#1. Straighten Out
Your posture has tremendous impact on your thoughts and behaviour.
One of the most powerful and simple ways to instantly boost your confidence is to work on your stance so that you stand and sit up straight.
When you smile, it tells your brain that you are happy which instantly influences your thoughts and calms your nerves.
Remember to smile genuinely and others will respond in kind.
#3. Ask Questions
If you find yourself worrying about how to react to what someone is telling you, focus instead on why they are telling you.
Ask questions and chances are more than likely that your amazing listening skills will be highly appreciated and your shyness won’t even enter into the equation.
Believe me, I fought my way through with sweaty palms and it helped me to overcome challenges and achieve amazing goals. Truth be told, my most successful ventures are always a result of a group of us coming together.
Push past that initial anxiety because that’s exactly what everyone else is doing!
